Cleaning luxury vinyl plank flooring
Cleaning luxury vinyl flooring
You have the floor that you want, now you just have to maintain it. The good news is that luxury vinyl plank flooring makes it quite simple. Keeping it clean requires very few materials. In fact, you probably already have what you need laying around the house. Here’s how you keep your luxury vinyl plank flooring looking brand-new:
Broom
Certainly, you already have a broom. Even if you don’t, you can go to your local hardware store (or even general market!) and find one at a low price. Brooms aren’t necessary for cleaning vinyl plank flooring, but they do help. They can reach areas that you can’t with a vacuum or mop. Dust, pet hair and other particles tend to gather underneath furniture. Plus, they start to really gather since most homeowners don’t have the time to constantly places that aren’t in plain sight to guests.
Believe it or not, dust particles are actually sharp. Sounds weird, right? The longer they sit in place the more likely your floor is to develop small scratches. You might not care too much about the hidden areas of your floor, but you never know, you could end up redecorating and suddenly those “hidden” areas get exposed. So put in the extra effort to clean occasionally and sweep the covered areas along with the exposed ones. You’ll be glad you did!
Vacuum
It’s good to get in the habit of vacuuming once a week. Or, to take the easy way out, get yourself a robot vacuum, like a Roomba. You can program these robot vacuums to run at particular times throughout the day. This requires minimal effort on your end. Additionally, you can have it run when you’re not home so you don’t have to deal with the noise. We say the “easy” way out, but using a robot vacuum is the smart way out as well.
The more you vacuum, the less dust that will have a chance to build up—it’s that simple. Regularly vacuuming your luxury vinyl plank flooring will help keep it in perfect condition.
Mop
The third and final part to a well-maintained luxury vinyl plank floor is a mop. These days, there are so many different types of mops available for homeowners. You don’t just have the traditional ring mop. Instead, you can buy mops that have special reusable microfiber cloths or pads. Some pads can even be used up to 300 times before needing to be disposed of.
Regardless of what kind of mop you use, the important thing is actually doing the mopping. Of the three cleaning tools, the mop is the most effective. It cleans dust, but it also removes stains and adds shine to your floor.
One of the reasons that luxury vinyl plank flooring stands out as a great option is due to its water resistance. Unlike hardwood flooring, luxury vinyl is able to withstand water much better. However, it’s still wise to clean up spills whenever they do occur. The floor’s water resistance makes it safe to mop with water. If you’d like to go a step further, you can mix a cleaning solution in the bucket of water, like vinegar. Either way, it won’t take more than mopping once a week to keep your vinyl floor in great shape.
